I just love products created from found materials, creating something totally new. It usually results in something more interesting with a deeper story. When I saw the close up of the 50% Sawdust lamp, I found the marbled colors just gorgeous. To find out that it is sawdust and recycled plastic bags, I was blown away. This desk lamp was designed and created by an industrial design firm in Israel called Kulla.

Sometimes you just need a day off from life. I have to be honest in saying I am glad that 2011 is over. It started with stress and ended with my head in the toilet puking! Stomach flu is not a Christmas tradition I want to experience again! In sickness and in health, it was amazing to have time to lay low, think about the possibilities of 2012 and heal. Heal from some of the tough things that happened in 2011 and get renewed for what is next. Our 2012 theme is "intentionality". This will transpire in a variety of ways, making each decision and connection meaningful and real and living life in a deeper way. Making steps to see dreams realized and investing in what matters. Everything is a choice, you can't live life playing the blame game.

The past few years we have seen a shift to the desire and demand for quality, crafted goods created by people who care. Local artists who want to create something from the heart and people want to buy items that are special enough to hand down to the next generation. My grandfather worked with wood, making my family dry sinks, stools and picture frames. I wish I could have watched him while he worked, but I am grateful to have a couple pieces created by him.

When I first saw the work of Geoffrey Keating, my jaw dropped. The subtle detail that goes into each piece is breathtaking. But what makes me really happy is to see someone putting that effort into a craft while also having an eye for style, tradition and beauty all in one. The Wharton High desk is inspired by flat files and clerk desks and combined with the warmth of wood to create a truly unique desk. Worthy of passing down.

I love the Christmas season! I love receiving cards from friends I have not heard from in some time, it is a little reminder that they are thinking of me. Saddly, it seems like each year, I rush to get cards sent in time. EEK! So it sparked my interest to read about a survey taken by Heathrow airport about the habits of people sending cards at Christmas and the wonderful way it reconnects people and opens doors for relationships to start! All the more reason to get those cards in the mail.

Just for taking the survey, people received a card from paper artist Rob Ryan saying, "days became hours until hours eventually became minutes and then finally it was merely seconds until all of the time that I had been away from you had dissolved and I was back safe with you again.”

I finally made it to Terrain, Anthropologie's outdoor furniture shop and nursery. It was all decked out for Fall; pumpkins galore, dried corn husks turned into banners and lots more. There was also this lovely little potting cottage for what looked like floral arranging classes. If only I lived in PA...

As you can already tell, I love to find inspiration in as many ways possible from reading, searching flea markets, traveling around the world or just turning on the television. Since more people are seeing the value in being creative, looking for the unknown and exploring new cultures, there are interesting "camps" popping up. I guess you could say these are curated trips that hone in on what creative people would like to do and experience. Not your average travel agency. For example, Ace Camps offers creatives opportunity to travel to new locations, explore the neighborhood, connect with other like minded peeps and be welcomed into a local crafter's creative world and create with them. If you are free the first week in November, you might just want to head down to Pescadero, Baja. Learn to surf, hang out in a hammock, and sleep in uniquely decorated tents.

Maybe the fact that Scrabble was a major form of entertainment in my home while growing up, that I ended up falling in love with writing and then the art of typography. Andrew Carpenter knew exactly what a graphic designer/type-lover like me would like to have on my desk. The A-1 Scrabble is a "bespoke" product of magnetic walnut board that clings together and also holds on the letters. We made our annual trek to Brimfield for their final 2011 event. You might have to be hiding under a rock not to have noticed all the retro 1950's/60's style hitting product and fashion right now. I think we look to that era as a time of growth, prosperity, rise of the middle class, technology boom and healthy commerce. We also idealize it as the time of the perfect family unit and slower vacation time from what is already a leisure life. But when a friend directed me to Wandawega, the "vacation wonderland" up on a lake in Wisconsin, I really wished I could fit this into our insane schedule, that looks even scarier this week then last...I don't know about you but I LOVE playing shuffleboard...

Audrey Hepburn is one of the greatest actresses and fashion icons that ever lived. Her presence on screen was regal, graceful and full of life. Her fashion style was simple, elegant and refined. One of my favorite movies, Roman Holiday, showed her rebelling by cutting off all her hair and sporting the cutest pixie cut of the 1950's. She was that cutting edge lady that mixed high with low, faminine and masculine, witty and silly, eccentric and proper. Since Fall 11' fashion is reflecting the attitude of the 1950's, I wanted to imagine what Audrey would do for a fashionable desk set. She would have a royal desk, but mix it with the quirky ghost chair. She would love the feminine and funky vibe of Rifle stationary. She would use her antique silver toast holder to organize her correspondence (because she would hand write letters, no email for her!) and her ballet flats would have studs, of course....

I LOVE surprises. It makes me really happy to know someone is thinking of me. This surprise came in the mail today! My husband thought of me and purchased this awesome hand made product by the design firm, Rich Neeley design. I always chuckle when someone agrees with you by saying "wooord". My friend Zach does it all the time, and it even makes him chuckle after he does it. I hope to take a trip to Brooklyn in the fall, must see Word bookstore. My husband and I have been big fans of Workstead since the day we came across an image from their living room featuring their gorgeous lighting, not knowing the source of the image at that time. Through a series of events and connections, they became one of the first clients of The Future Forward, designing and programming a new site with shopping capabilities. Minimal, sleek, creative and classic speak to both the site and the product.

I have had my Kindle for a couple months now, and while I love the easy access to so many books, I still have a hard time getting used to it. I am LOVING that the San Francisco-based company, Dodocase, honors the history and skill of bookbinding by hand and applies this idea to the various electronic readers, giving it a more natural and tactile feel.

I find it fascinating how the popularity of street photography, such as the Sartorialist, launches people in the creative and fashion world into fame just by walking out their door each morning in amazing, creative ensembles. I joked with my husband that I was "internet stalking" this lady that kept popping up on the fashion blogs, her style always amazed and inspired me. He thought I was weird. Then he forwarded me a guy he kept seeing and was really digging his rough and refined quirky looks. Ha! Now he knows what I am talking about!
